Montera’s community is beautifully diverse, with students entering from every elementary school in the District. Our school colors are black and gold and our mascot is the Toro, whose strength and determination is symbolic of our school spirit and community. Montera is a place where students are challenged to reach their full potential through rigorous and engaging instruction within a safe and caring community. Montera graduates are prepared to excel in high school, college, and beyond. We embrace and cultivate the diversity of our school community. Our incredibly active PTO works closely with our teachers and administration, raising and spending money to increase technology in our classrooms, go on field trips, and to put on large events to celebrate our students’ cultural diversity. Montera prides itself on educating the whole child, both academically and socially, as we understand that middle school years are a time for young adults to explore choices, build trust, and develop relationships. To nurture this, we have invested in an incredible Restorative Justice program to increase student awareness of the impact their actions have on each other and the community, and to encourage growth and maturity. This, along with our commitment to the Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies model guides our vision. Montera offers a wide array of elective courses such as woodshop (only middle school in OUSD to do so), music, art, Spanish, computers, yearbook, Man-Up, and leadership. Montera has one of the largest middle school programs for special needs children, offering a wide variety and levels of service. Our Special Education programs are full inclusion with an emphasis of moving students towards full indepe ndence. For additional support, we offer intervention classes for English Language Arts and Mathematics. We incorporate a blended learning model utilizing Achieve 3000 and Khan Academy. Montera Middle School has a large afterschool program that is supported by our PTO and 21st Century grant funding. We have partnered with Eagle Village Community Center, who serves as our lead agency providing programs such as hip hop dance, architecture, homework help, guitar classes, video game design, among others! Our sports program offers a wide variety of both competitive and non-competitive options such as girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball and soccer, running club, ultimate 80 Enrollment Options Guide 2015-16 School Uniform Description No uniforms.
