Believe you can! Work hard! Get Smart! At Piedmont
Avenue Elementary School, we inspire children to love
learning. We emphasize student engagement in every
classroom with a culture of high academic expectations
and a rigorous curriculum based on the Common Core
Standards. Our academic programs include hands-on math
and science instruction, leveled reading groups based on
data driven intervention and challenge lessons. We offer
several enrichment activities such as computers, sport/
game time, gardening, instrumental music, choir, art, library
and African dance. We promote collaboration, equity and
cultural competence. We see our school’s cultural diversity
as an asset and we celebrate our love and respect for
each other with ongoing multicultural activities. We have
community partnerships with Experience Corps, Reading
Partners, Excel Reading, Education Through Music, Faith
Network, Evergreen Church, the YMCA East Bay, Oakland
Technical High School and Oakland High School. As a FullService Community School, we have the Piedmont Avenue
Branch of the Oakland Public Library on our site. We offer
student and family counseling services from the Ann Martin
Wellness Center on our site. Our faculty, support staff, and
volunteers act as a team committed to keeping student
achievement at our core. We believe every child will succeed.
We promote a college going culture, naming each classroom
after a college with the belief that our students will graduate
from high school prepared to attend college. Our family
partnerships involve parents in the classrooms and parents
are also active in our PTA and School Site Council. We
