Acorn Woodland Elementary (AWE), a California
Distinguished School, is rich in its diversity. AWE is situated
on a state-of-the-art $22,000,000 educational complex,
which boasts a brand new joint-use public library, school
garden, science classroom, media center, dance studio,
music classroom, family resource center, community
meeting space, teacher resource room, counseling center,
reading intervention, resource and speech rooms, large
field, outdoor science area, as well as an amphitheater.
These resources have been allocated to support our vision of
developing scholars who have the skills and determination to
pursue higher education. We also provide wonderful services
for our Acorn Woodland families. We offer parent workshops
focused on helping families understand how to best support
their children academically. Additionally, we have a robust
parent leadership program where parents receive training
on how to be highly effective leaders in the greater Acorn
Woodland community. We believe that having healthy
families and children is critical to achieving academic success
and have made family health and wellness a focus for many
of our parent programs. We offer a healthy cooking and
eating class, which is supported by our partner, Champions
for Change. Acorn Woodland also holds a weekly farmers’
market that provides our families and community with
affordable, fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Furthermore,
we offer families fitness opportunities, such as our parentled Zumba classes and morning walks around the Acorn
Woodland Elementary track.
