Oakland Unified School District High School Enrollment Options Guide 2015-16 MetWest High School 314 E 10th Street, 94606 451-5902 www.ousd.k12.ca.us/metwest Site Code 338 | Options Code 28 9-12 At MetWest, you won’t find certain things you might expect in a high school, like lockers, seven-period bell schedules, or people in the hallway you don’t know. Instead you will have the chance to be recognized for who you really are, and to be part of creating a strong, real, respectful school community. MetWest is a small school for students willing to work hard for their own well-being and the well-being of their communities, and to take initiative to help design their education. This doesn’t mean you need straight A’s from middle school. Many students come to MetWest and go from F’s to A’s. It means you need to be ready to explore a bigger world and go beyond what you are used to. We ask you to take your interests, your schoolwork, and your future more seriously, and to learn to connect with all different kinds of people. MetWest students spend most of their Tuesdays and Thursdays at organizations and businesses throughout the Bay Area exploring their interests through internships. At school students learn in small classes with teacher/advisors who know them well and peers who become like family. The curriculum focuses on learning why the world is the way it is and how you can change it. Students start to change the world while at MetWest by taking leadership at the school and designing real-world projects in the community and at internships. Most of our students also take a Laney Community College class while in high school and MetWest graduates have extremely high college going rates. Our 20062010 grads enrolled in four-year colleges at rates twice the national average among schools serving our population and 70 percent of our graduates were in college two years after high school, beating the average for all schools in country!
