Enrollment Options Guide 2015-16
Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a full day class offered through the OUSD public education
system. Eligible Transitional Kindergarten students will be placed in the TK program for
the 2015-2016 school year and will continue onto kindergarten in 2016-17. OUSD is proud
to announce that for 2015-2016, Transitional Kindergarten Programs will be available at
almost every elementary level school◊.
What is Transitional Kindergarten (TK)?
Designed to meet the specific needs of four and five year old children, TK is the first
of a two-year Kindergarten experience. TK teachers are credentialed with specialized
training in teaching young children. Aligned with the California Common Core Standards
for Kindergarten, instruction focuses on all areas of child development, including social
emotional, literacy and math foundations, and fine and gross motor. TK classrooms
are nurturing environments where children learn through individual and small group
instruction that are hands on and play-based.
Students who
turn five between
September 2 and
December 2, 2015
are eligible for the
Transitional
Kindergarten
(TK) program.
How do I apply?
Parents of future TK students participate in the Options Open Enrollment lottery process like regular students. Submit the regular
application and any required documentation to any OUSD school or the Student Assignment Center before the deadline. The required
documentation needed to apply includes three proofs of residence, your child’s birth certificate, and your personal identification.
Proof of immunization will be required at the time of registration.
For 2015-2016 Transitional Kindergarten Programs will be available at every elementary level school in OUSD. For more information
