The University of Nebraska was chartered by the Nebraska Legislature in 1869 as the state’s public university and land-grant institution.
Founded in Lincoln, the University of Nebraska was expanded in 1968 into a state educational system now comprising four campuses
under the guidance of a Board of Regents and a central administration.
Nebraska, which joined the Big Ten Conference in 2011, is a member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a consortium
of Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago, which has generated unique opportunities for students and faculty by sharing
expertise, leveraging resources and collaborating on programs.

Committee on Institutional Cooperation
As a member of the Big Ten, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is a member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation,
which includes all 14 Big Ten Institutions and the University of Chicago. The Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) and the
institutions together have annual research expenditures topping $10.2 billion — more tha
