The Toowoomba Region is famous for its stunning
parks, gardens and the diversity of our communities.
The Environment and Community Services group is
responsible for a unique portfolio of services that
enhance liveability. The group comprises six service
areas: Tourism and Events, Library and Cultural Services,
Community Development and Facilities, Parks and
Recreation Services, Environmental Health Services and
Property Services.
Tourism and Events
The Tourism and Events branch manage a host of
initiatives and events across the region designed to
encourage our residents and visitors alike to connect and
celebrate the region’s diversity. Toowoomba’s premier
event the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and a number
of other local community events are managed by this
branch.
Key results for the 2015 Toowoomba Carnival of
Flowers include:
• The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers won Gold in the
2015 Queensland Tourism Award for the Major Events
category
• Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers won the national
event category at the 2015 Parks and Leisure
Australia National Awards for Excellence
• Visitation to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers:
196,000

STATUS
• Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers held 17 official events
and supported over 80 community events
• Media coverage for the Toowoomba Region:
$4,300,000 (equivalent cost of free media coverage)
• Economic impact for the Toowoomba Region:
$25,740,000.
Visitor Information Centres
With input and assistance from many local tourism groups,
the Tourism and Events branch also manages the six
Visitor Information Centres which actively help to promote
the region. The Visitor Information Centres supported
more than 60,000 visitors and residents with information
to explore our unique region in the 2015-16 financial year.
Parks and Recreation Services
Council remains focused on contributing to the
community’s health and well-being through provision and
maintenance of high-quality recreational facilities such as
parks, sporting fields, gymnasiums and public areas.
The Parks and Recreation Services Branch are committed
to ensuring our community has equitable access to
participate and enjoy our parks, natural areas and
sporting facilities across the region. By renewing our
park assets, planning for the open space needs of
future generations, delivering consistent region-wide
quality operational services, working with community
groups, and providing a variety of quality programs to
