Miami Metro Zoo
Miami Seaquarium
Rated one of the top ten zoos in the U.S. and the number
one zoo for Pachyderms by the Intrepid Traveler, Zoo Miami
houses more than 2,000 animals in environments that mimic
their natural habitats. Large, open-air exhibits allow visitors to
enjoy beautiful and endangered wildlife at a safe yet remarkably
close range. With 340 developed acres on a 740-acre parcel of
land, Zoo Miami is the only zoo in the continental United States
located in a subtropical climate. This enables the zoo to showcase animals that cannot easily be exhibited in colder climates.
Zoo Miami also has more than 1,200 trees, plants and flowers
visible from its walkways, adding to its beautiful, relaxing ambiance.
Come face to face with world-famous stars Lolita the Killer
Whale, TV’s Flipper, and Salty the Sea Lion. Plus, check out the
sharks and crocodiles. In this 38-acre, tropical island paradise,
anything is possible. Whales and dolphins fly while exotic birds
stroll by. And people have the time of their lives. It’s all just 10
minutes from Downtown Miami overlooking the turquoise bay.
See lots of thrilling shows and marine life exhibits. Take the
plunge and swim with our dolphins. Come see for yourself why
this is South Florida’s favorite attraction.
Monkey Jungle
In an island all its own, located minutes from downtown Miami,
get an up-close look at tropical birds in replicas of their own natural habitats. The Tale of the Tiger Show and Gator X-treme shows
are not to be missed.
Located just off U.S. 1 in South Dade, Monkey Jungle was an
innovator of many of the concepts currently seen in the design
of zoological parks. It is home to nearly 400 primates, most
running free on a 30 acre reserve. It is one of the few protected
habitats for endangered primates in the United States and the
only one that the general public can explore.
A total of 30 species of primates are represented at Monkey
Jungle including gibbons, guenons and spider monkeys. The
Golden Lion Tamarin is native to the Brazilian jungle. Threatened with extinction, Monkey Jungle proudly participates in an
international effort to save the tiny creature.
Parrot Island
Make your way across a true replica of the Florida
Everglades, complete with beautiful flora and fauna
from the region. You might even witness the feeding habits of our
alligators! )5
