2014 • SEASON OUTLOOK
One of Nebraska’s top performers in 2013, two-time
first-team All-American Jessie DeZiel (pronounced DuhZEEL) will look to be one of the Huskers’ top threats in
her junior campaign. A tremendous athlete, she will help
pave the way in the all-around this season.
“She is a competitor and is so talented,” Nebraska
Coach Dan Kendig said. ”Once we finally get into
competition I can see her really start to shine. She is a
powerful, consistent performer, and does not like to
make mistakes. Jessie has come a long way since she
has been here, and I expect her junior year to be another
successful one.”
2013 • SOPHOMORE SEASON
DeZiel reinforced her claim as one of the nation’s
top all-arounders in 2013, notching a 12th-place
all-around finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships
to become a second-team All-American in the allaround and on beam. DeZiel was the 2013 Big Ten
runner-up in the all-around (39.625), tied for second
place on floor, and also earned the vault title. She also
competed as one of NU’s three all-arounders at the
NCAA Morgantown Regional, posting a 39.200 and
winning an ensuing tiebreaker to qualify for the NCAA
Championships as an individual competitor.
DeZiel was a first-team All-Big Ten pick for the
second year in a row, and earned NACGC/W first-team
All-America honors on vault and the all-around.
2012 • FRESHMAN SEASON
In one of the most impressive freshman campaigns
in school history, DeZiel captured three All-America
honors and was the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional
all-around champion to help lead the Huskers. DeZiel
capped off her year at the NCAA Championships
in Duluth, Ga., where she became a first-team AllAmerican on the floor and all-around, while earning
second-team All-America honors on vault. DeZiel
advanced to the NCAA event finals on floor, scoring a
9.90 to finish sixth. The Rogers, Minn., native posted
a 39.425 in the NCAA Semifinals to finish in 11th place
overall.
DeZiel, who didn’t miss a routine the entire
season, was a dominant force within the Big Ten
Conference, winning a league-high 11 Big Ten
individual weekly awards and taking home the Big
Ten Conference Freshman-of-the-Year award. At
the Big Ten Conference meet, DeZiel was the Big Ten
floor champion after a 9.90 on the event and finished
second in the all-around with a 39.525 to earn a spot
on the All-Big Ten Championship team on each event.
At regionals, DeZiel was the all-around, vault and floor
champion.
DeZiel scored at least a 39.225 in the all-around
in each meet during 2012 and posted a season-high
39.60 in her home state of Minnesota against the
Gophers on Feb. 18. She was named the 2012 Nebraska
Newcomer of the Year and finished with a team-high
