2014 Educational and Volunteer Programs T  he Kiawah Conservancy offers a variety of volunteer and education opportunities for property owners, residents and visitors. We encourage you to join us for an educational program or activity, volunteer your time or sign up to learn more about how the Conservancy is working to protect Kiawah Island’s diverse wildlife and habitat. 2014 educational efforts included: •• A newly designed, state-of-the-art website: www.kiawahconservancy.org •• Ever increasing followers on Facebook and Twitter •• Our increasingly popular monthly Conservation Matters programs featuring: - Paul Roberts on bird identification - Pamela Cohen on wildlife photography -  resentations from the Center for Birds of Prey and P the South Carolina Aquarium presented with the Heron Park Nature Center - A bird walk with Aaron Given •• Presentations in the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden •• A special symposium titled Celebrating Forty Years of Designing with Nature featuring presenters who have helped form Kiawah Island over the past 40 years 20 Our publications: •• Naturally Kiawah, 101 Things We Love About Kiawah •• Naturally Kiawah, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow •• Naturally Kiawah, Guest Edition Volume 2 2014 volunteer opportunities included: •• Photography and writing for our magazine, Naturally Kiawah •• Kiawah Island Triathlon and Marathon for which the Conservancy received a donation from the Kiawah Island Golf Resort for recruiting volunteers •• Stewardship visit with the Conservancy’s land preservation coordinator •• Bird monitoring and banding efforts throughout the year including the Christmas Bird Count •• Assisting with clerical tasks •• Serving on Conservancy committees •• Sharing special talents (as a consultant) •• Prepping for events Get involved today!
