The Year 13 class rehearsed at length to produce a memorable rendition of Miller’s A View from the Bridge in July. They were then fortunate enough to see the same play at Circa Theatre and meet the entire cast during their annual trip to Wellington and the national drama school, Toi Whakaari. An exciting addition to the school’s lighting resources this year was the arrival of eight new LED lights. These link together to provide any shade of colour, so are ideal for not only stage productions but also dance routines and band performances. Combined with the new smoke machine, they provided effective lighting for auditorium events such as House Choir, Talent Quest, Music Fest and the Technology Showcase this year. Final recognition must go to our outgoing senior techies for their years of dedicated service to the school. Their expertise has been passed on to the new generation of techies through the instigation of “Techie Tuesdays” this year. Earlier in the year, I was lucky enough to be involved with the school production of the 39 Steps. I was the only year 12 with a lead and felt very grateful to be given this opportunity. While playing Pamela Edwards I was pushed out of my comfort zone more often than not by Mr Walton, but I learned a lot more than I would have if I had remained comfortable. I had never had the experience of working with such a small cast. It is a lot more intimate and you develop much deeper bonds with your cast mates (especially with the other four leads!). My experience of the 39 Steps was very much one of learning, it helped me expand how I portray characters especially. It was such a fun time and I miss spending at least seven hours a week with my fellow cast members. Thank you for the experience, and all who were involved behind the scenes who made it happen. I encourage anyone who is into drama to get involved around the school. Brie-Anna Keatle The 39 Steps
