HUMAN SETTLEMENT ON MARS Mars One is an nonprofit organisation that intends to settle a permanent human colony on Mars by 2025. Bas Lansdorp who is the founder of Mars One, announced his plans for the first human colony in Mars in 2012. The organisation has to do a long term preparation to accomplish an successful mission. The program started it’s crew selection in 2013 and the first 100 people to join the Mars mission has already selected. Their training will start in 2015 and continue untill the first launch in 2014. During their training, they will learn to repair components of the habitat and rover, train in medical procedures and learn to grow their own food in the habitat. Also, their training will include simulations according to the terrain of Mars. To simulate best environmental and psychological contiditons, the crew will be training at places like the Arctic Desert. In 2018, a communication satellite will be launched into a Mars stationary orbit to enable communication between 2 planets. The satallite will be able to provide image, video and data from Mars surface. In 2020, one intelligent Rover and one Trailer will be launched. The intelligent Rover’s task is to find the best location on the Mars surface for the crew. The location must be equatorial enough for maximum solar power and flat enough for facilitate construction of the in 2025. In 2023, the Rover starts the build up the Life Support which was launched in 2022. After all the units are established, the life life support system will produce a breathable atmosphere of 0.7 bar pressure, 3000 liters of water and 120 kg of oxygen that is in storage. The first crew will launch in 2024. The fully trained crew will start their journey. At that point, there is no return for the Mars crew. They will complete their journey in 2025. About 24 hours before landing, the crew will move from the Transit Habitat into the landing module because the Transit Habitat is too large to land on Mars and it will stay in orbit around the Sun. After landing, they will be picked up by the Rover. After staying a few days in one of the Living Units to settle down, the crew will deploy all of the solar panels to work at the best potential. The cargo for the second crew will land after a couple weeks the first crew landed. It will be picked up and installed, adding to the redundancy in the settlement. The second crew departs from Earth in 2026. With the second crew, the Cargo for the third crew is also launched. The second crew will arrive in 2027. The hardware for crew three will land a few weeks later and will be added to the ettlement. This process continues as additional crews land every two years (Mars One, 2015). Ertuğrul AKTAŞ 9-A settlement and must contain enough water in the soil. The Rover also clears the surface where solar panels will lie. In 2022, a second Rover, two Living Units, two Life Support Systems, and a Supply Unit will be launched to establish the units for the first humans that will be in Mars THE CLAPPER 2014 - 2015 76 Bibliography: Mars One.
