school. Yavuz Sultan Selim Boulevard has two roadways in
one direction and traffic is so dense in some time intervals.
Since the Yavuz Sultan Selim Boulevard has wide and long
roadways, maximum speed limit for that road is 70 kmh -1 ,
and this speed limit cannot be exceeded by drivers with 10
% of it because this rule can be applied on only less dense
roads. Thus, maximum speed can be 77 kmh -1 for drivers.
Length of the road is approximately 1918 meters (±2). That
ring road connects my house and my school which is in
city center. On that ring road there are five traffic lights.
Each of that should be examined to find the needed time
synchronization of traffic lights.
I will explore the speed intervals for each part of the road
by using the formula:
Speed=Distance÷Time
I will find out the fastest and slowest speeds that are needed
to pass the each part of the Yavuz Sultan Selim Boulevard.
Table 1.1: The speed intervals which are needed to pass the
all parts of the road without stopping on red light.
WHO KNOWS INFINITY ?
What is infinity? This is the question that is in everyone’s
mind. Infinity is defined as the idea of something that
has no end. People call the infinity as the thing that is
not big, huge, large or enormous; just the think that is
endless. Even thinking of extremely huge numbers tire
human brain, thinking of the infinity sometimes hurts
the human brain.
First of all, infinity is not a real number. Infinity is an
idea. Infinity is without an end. As an endless number it
is impossible to measure infinity. Even the galaxies such
as the Earth or the unknown planets are in, cannot be
compared with the infinity.
MATHEMATICS

From the speed limits of the government we know that
maximum speed can be 70 kmh -1 which is 19. 44ms -1 .
So when we readjust the table by considering legal speed
limits, speed limits table becomes meaningless because
maximum speed could be19.44ms -1 , but this speed limit
does not help to pass the stoplights without any waiting.
If the speed limit was not 19.44ms -1 , the table would be
rearranged like below. The maximum speed would be
accepted as 120 kmh -1 which is 33.33 ms -1 , and the speed
intervals that are required for green wave system could be
like in the table 1.2 below.
Table 1.2: expected speed limits to pass all stoplights
without any waiting
From chart we can see that
32.9 < xms -1 < 33.33
is the common range for “x” in all parts so “x” is between
32.9 ms -1 and 33 ms -1 . I will take “x” as 33 ms -1 so speed of
my school bus must be 33 ms -1 , approximately 119 km per
hour but this speed is not acceptable for inside of the city.
Also, it has some disadvantages. It is dangerous for us and
other drivers, and travelling with 119 km per hour leads to
cost much more than travelling with lower speeds.
As another fact, the things that have end are much
harder than the infinity. Measuring something with end
requires measuring the end points. Line is the term in
geometry that has infinite length and it goes in both
directions without an end. A line that has one end is
called a ‘Ray’ and if it has ended in two directions is
called ‘line segment’. Defining the line segment needs
extra information as finding the ending point.
Sometimes infinity defines as a number but it is not
really a real number. The rule “∞ + 1 = ∞” says that the
infinity plus one is still equal to infinity because when
something is already endless, we can add 1 but the result
is still endless. Also the minus infinity is less than any real
number and infinity is greater than any real number.
As the conclusion, people do not really know how big
the infinity is so mentioning the two infinities as equal is
not really true or false. Mainly infinities the simple idea
of endless, not like we know that have end infinity does
not have.
