BELS MATH DAYS Between 9 March and 13 March 2015, our school organized math days including many activities such as Math Contest, Math Projects, Chess Tournaments and Pi Day. During the week, everyone had fun and the students discovered the magical and endless world of mathematics. Math Contest A quiz program which included math problems with long operations was arranged in Math Contest. The questions in the competition were a great chance for the participants to improve their ability of solving problems on their mind. Students from grades 9,10 and 11 were competed and here are the winners; from 9th grades Nazlı Erzeneoğlu and Talha Kotçioğlu.From 10th grades Gökçe Çelik and Çağlayan Demirci.From 11th grades Aybüke Gültekin and Fatmanur Adırbelli We congratulate all the winners! � Chess Tournament 20 students participated in the chess tournament which was prepared by Volkan Duran who loves playing chess. In our school many students who want to attend the following tournaments were audience. The first tour lasted 14 minutes, the second tour lasted 24 minutes, the third tour lasted 30 minutes and the final tour lasted 1 hour. Kerem Bayramoğlu who have been playing chess for 2 years and Oğuzhan Gültekin who have been playing it for 5 years challenged with each other, and Kerem became the winner of the tournament by defeating Oğuzhan. Kerem said: “Oğuzhan was the most challenging one that I have ever competed.” THE CLAPPER 2014 - 2015 32 Math Projects The packs that included instructions about the math projects were given to the prep students. These projects were counted as their English Yearly Project and the first performance grade for mathematics. The rubric also was given in the packs besides the abstracts, files, posters and presentations, and the students made their projects according to this rubric. Students prepared their math projects and the projects were exhibited in multipurpose hall. There is an atmosphere that resembles to Science Fair that we can now call Math Fair. The prominent projects were made by Göktuğ Kahyaoğlu, Ayşegül Bilgedursun, İlke Perçem Akova, Berrin Yıldırım, Göktuğ Kömeç, Samed Şanap, Ecehan Uzun and Emir Özkara. Some of the projects were The Billiard, Sudoku, Monopoly, Maypop, Pi Posters an Lives of Some Mathematicians. The benefits of these projects: The students approached the beginning of IB by these projects. They learnt writing articles, making verbal presentations, IB exploration and also they know much about academic honesty. Besides, they revised the topics they have learnt so far.
