REFLLECTIVE: They are reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn. INNOVATIVE: Cambridge learners are innovative and equipped for new and future challenges. ENGAGED: Every Cambridge learner is engaged intellectually and socially and ready to make a difference. We are dedicated to educate our students within the frame work of Cambridge Learner Attributes, which will be extended with IBDP Learner Profiles when they get to grade 11. Most of the skills mentioned above are overlapping with the objectives and goals of Cambridge IGCSE subjects that are studied at BELS. IGCSE courses in our school aims at supporting learners to think critically on a range of issues in language and science areas through self-research and peer-learning. As part of a program that prepares our student for International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, IGCSE guides our teachers to implement instructional methodologies that enable students to be independent learners, fluent writers, great thinkers, and engaged individuals. Our students carry on developing themselves under these notions as they proceed to the IB Diploma Program. CAMBRIDGE LEARNER ATTRIBUTES At BELS, our students are expected to develop certain skills in order to receive high competency and success in Cambridge IGCSE courses. These skills are not seen as short-term goals but they should be regarded as skills that are needed for a successful academic and social life in future studies. Cambridge, in this regard, defines five fundamental learner attributes for any Cambridge learner. A Cambridge Learner has the following attributes. These are: CONFIDENT: A Cambridge learner is confident in working with information and ideas-their own and those of others. RESPONSIBLE: Every Cambridge learner is responsible for himself/ herself. They are responsive to and respectful to others. THE CLAPPER 2014 - 2015 130 COUNSELLING SESSION WITH IGCSE STUDENTS This academic year, we had IGCSE counselling sessions with grade 10 students on different topics such as study skills and exam anxiety. Ceyda Öztekin, specialist psychologist, ran these sessions in small student groups. The first session was on exam anxiety, which focused on the reasons for anxiety and the ways of eliminating excessive amounts of anxiety. Students were guided that they had to identify their needs with the help of the school counselor, which would decrease the amount of anxiety in return. The second session was on how students can study in a productive way. Students shared their ways of studying for IGCSE exams and got feedback from Ceyda Öztekin. Students were especially guided on how they should arrange their study program close to the IGCSE May exam series.
