Whether students of science and technology
or the arts and humanities, BELS students are
extraordinary. They are as equally proficient with
electric circuitry as they are with literary analysis.
The Clapper is evidence of their immense
awareness and skill. They understand systems to
use ozone water purifiers, study bacteria under
the microscope, make watercolors of parasites or
listen to heavy metal music. One cannot imagine
the infinite talent and knowledge they possess.
Their motivated teachers set them on course and
guide them in the right direction.
These eclectic pages are full of examples of the
array of their aptitude and inventiveness. From
our prep students through our newest graduates
you will see what being a Bilkent Erzurum student
is all about. All high school departments are
represented.
In the Turkish section you might learn something
about Erzurum or read a poem. The English section
has concrete poetry, novel analysis and an original

screenplay. You will find zero in the math section
and there are many holes in the physics section,
but don’t quibble. We can always count on the
chemists for a formula and something about ozone
(as mentioned above). Biology students went into
their shells when they weren’t crabby, but it was
murder. Tribute was paid to Çanakkale, Sarıkamış
and BELS’s own student philosopher in the social
studies section, balanced by the German section
on Goethe. Sports, visual and performing arts are
represented. Through guidance we read about
good mental and physical health and careers.
With such an exciting and dynamic school
operating all around me, all I have to do is check
on the control panel to ensure that all is in order
and let everyone be free to their own devices.
