Millsaps Majors Tennis Millsaps Majors Tennis HEAD COACH- 4th Season Majors under Box The Box Report Jason Box Hometown: Waco, TX Alma Mater: Sewanee, University of the South Playing Expierence: Sewanee Tigers A former two-time All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tennis player and captain at the University of the South, Jason Box has been the Millsaps Men’s and Women’s Head Tennis Coach since 2011. Coaching Expierence In his first three years at the helm, Coach Box compiled a 43-19 record as the women’s coach and 30-32 record on the men’s side. He has coached six All-Conference women and five all conference men including Malte Schick who was named the Southern Athletic Association player of the year in 2013. In 2014, Deena Li Kam Wa was named an ITA All-American as Box coached the junior to the second round of the NCAA national tournament. It was the Majors first NCAA appearance since 1989. Ten players have been named ITA Scholar Athletes and Coach Box was named the 2012 SCAC Women’s Coach of the Year. Millsaps College (2011-Present) Men’s and Women’s Head Coach Total (Men): 30-32 2012: 18-5 2013: 12-8 2014: 13-6 Lake Forest College(2011) Men’s and Women’s Head Coach The 2014 season showed continued progress of both the men’s and women’s program. The women finished 13-6 and the men finished 9-10. Once again, both teams had two players selected to the All-SAA team. The women’s team finished ranked 12th in the Atlantic South Region with Li Kam Wa finishing 7th in the region in singles and Callie Creekmore joining her to end the season as the 8th ranked doubles team in the region. Both programs will bring in their largest recruiting class in the past five years. The men have a top50 class and the women a top-30 class in the nation. 2012: 10-13 2013: 11-9 2014: 9-10 Total (Women): 43-19 Bates College (2009-10) Men’s and Women’s Assistant Coach Swarthmore College (2007-2008) Interim Head Men’s Coach The 2013 season was one of great improvement. The men finished the season with a 12-8 record, their first winning record in over six years. They also had two players named to the SAA first team in Malte Schick and Adam Tilly. Millsaps was the only team with two players represented on the first team. For the women, it was their second straight year with a winning record, finishing 12-8 as well and ranked 18th in the Atlantic South Region. Sophomore Deena Li Kam Wa finished 13th in the region for singles and with her teammate Callie Creekmore, they finished 15th in the doubles rankings. VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT Dr. Jamie Harris Prior to Box, the Millsaps’ Women’s tennis team went 1-17 on their way to last in the conference. In 2012, it did not take Box long to make a lasting impression. It took the Majors three years to get to 11 match victories, under Box, they accomplished the feat in a mere 15 matches. That season, Box led the Majors to a number four seed in the SCAC women’s tournament tournament, after defeating Birmingham Southern, they reached the semi-finals for just the second time in the program’s history.
