2013 UBMS Yearkbook Vol 1 | Page 43

This weekend was the weekend of ABC competition! For three weeks, we’ ve practiced and worked our hardest for this big event. Since my first year in UBMS, I’ ve participated in basketball and poetry interpretation. This is my third year competing, so some assume that the nerves would go away- this is the furthest thing from true! I always drive to be better than the year before. Being in this program has definitely taught me to push myself as far as possible. I’ m glad I was given the opportunity to be in poetry, because it is my favorite form of communication. Overall, UBMS did amazingly( of course!). The state poetry team received first place, and I received first individually. Though I am glad that I placed in the competition, the journey of getting there with Tim and my classmates was the best part!- Deanna Gibson
For academic bowl, this year I am playing volleyball again. I absolutely love volleyball; it is a great active sport. I see a lot of potential in my team this year and I can’ t wait to play the local team in competition this year because we are going to kick their butts. My team has amazing servers, passers, setters, and hitters. I am so EXCITED for academic bowl!!! Our practice is very serious but in all of our serious work, we tie games in with it so we can have a little fun with what we are doing. Last night, my coach taught the team how to hit. Well, I’ m not usually a back row player but last night I had the most amazing back row hit. I was so surprised with myself. That hit alone is what lead my coach to teach the rest of the team how to hit. Once again, I repeat myself, I absolutely love volleyball. I always say it’ s not if you win or lose, it’ s how you play. Well this summer, I don’ t care as much if we win or lose, although I LOVE to win. I will be proud of my team for all their progress and potential they have shown.- Rebecca Loftin
