Playing basketball over the summer with the UBMS program benefits me a whole a lot. It gave me the chance to play against boys, which is other game level compare to girls. They play, run and jump higher than girls. That’ s what I needed to get better. The boys make me work harder to get the ball and be ready to haul butt down the court. My coach this summer gave me another look at the game; it’ s not all about skills but also thinking ahead and think of the choice or pass I made on the court, because it will affect the rest of the game. Basketball is like a game of life, cause in the game, whatever choices I make will be there for the rest of the game, I can’ t undo anything that has been done. I’ ll just have to learn from them and watch others make mistakes and make sure I don’ t do the same. Hard work pays off! What pays off? HARD WORK!!! Will we ever give up? NO!! Because what pays off? HARD WORK!!!!

The academic bowl was filled with adrenaline. In soccer, we only won 2nd place but we are proud of our team winning because we never thought we would have gone to the next round. yay llamas! In the academic part, I had to do dictionary skills. You were timed to answer all forty questions in twenty minutes, it was exciting! I really enjoyed participating in the academic bowl even though you had to work hard.- Zandra Romero
This was my third Academic Bowl competition and out of all three, I would have to say that the one here at UTA has been my favorite. This year, I competed in Calculator Applications and Basketball. My first two years, I had always fallen short in calculator and gotten 3rd individually, and this year, I feel short yet again and got 2nd. In basketball, we lost to UTA UB, which led us to play for third place which we won safely. I had a great and fun experience this year even though I did not get a first place award.- Miguel Velez

Academic Bowl was hosted here at UTA this year. It was my first time competing in the Bowl and it was very fun and a great experience. I competed in Dictionary Skills and Indoor Soccer. I really enjoyed getting ready for both. I learned so much from both of them. Dictionary Skills gave me so much more knowledge about things and how to know where things are in a dictionary. In soccer, I learned a lot of moves and how to play it right. It made me love the game so much more. The day I competed in Dictionary Skills, I felt so ready for the test. Later I found out that as a group we got 2nd place! The day we played indoor soccer, I felt so pumped up and ready but also scared at the same time. It was intense. I honestly didn’ t believe that we would get so far but we did! We went to the finals and got 2nd place. We proved to others and ourselves that we are capable of so much more than we think.- Diana Ramirez
The academic bowl was flipping amazing! I had fun, but it was tiring. I was so tired, I fell asleep! I had social studies and our team got third … Its ok though!!! Everyone had a ball! Stephen was our teacher and he was a great teacher. Bamm!- Patrick Ayala
In my ABC athletics, I’ m in basketball. I think we have a pretty good team over all. Our girls team should be able to take it all. We are continuously working on our plays and offense / defense. Our coach is really preparing us every day. Not a day goes by when we aren’ t going hard or putting our all into the practice. We have such a competitive team. There is nothing I would change about our practices and team.- Nazarioncy Pena
I think I did pretty well in dictionary skills, this being my first year and all. I started from 45 minutes to do 20 questions, now I can do 40 questions in 20 minutes. I never knew I could do that but I believed in myself and I did it. This year, our team got 2nd place but next year I hope that we can get 1st and that I can get a 1st place individual. All I have to do is try harder, study more and get faster and I know I can do it!- Kelsey Littleton
