‘ This year we have had three teams compete in the Hawke’s Bay Secondary Schools’ competition. The 1st XI team in division one and the 2nd and 3rd XI teams in division two. For all teams this has been a bit of a mixed season. The 1st XI started off the season well with wins against teams from Woodford House, Sacred Heart and Iona. They also had a few close calls which ended in losses against Hastings Girls’ and Napier Girls’. These close games meant that the team ended up in the bottom half of division one. However the girls stayed focussed and in the end topped the bottom half of the division and ended up 5th overall. The 2nd and 3rd XI teams also had some great moments, which included the face off between both teams. This was a home game and lots of supporters turned out to cheer the teams on. In the end the 3rd XI, which is mostly made up of junior girls won 4-2. The 2nd XI found their feet in the last game of the season against Taradale High 2nd XI and they drew 0-0. The girls really worked as a team, and let no goals in. We also took a team to the central six competition in Palmerston North this year. This interschool exchange is for year 9 and 10’s.The team started off with a draw and then a win. Overall the team finished third. I would like to thank all the parents who came out every Wednesday to support their daughters as well as to drive players to the various match venues. A huge thanks to our three coaches this year. Chase Aquette has coached the first XI team for the last two years as well as supporting the team on tournament. Ben Throp, and Brett Angell coached the 2nd and 3rd XI teams. All three coaches have given up a huge amount of free time to attend training sessions after school as well as coach at the games. Without their support and commitment we would not have such a strong a group of players here at HNHS. Leah White Teacher i/c soccer
