Colts
With the return of just two of the very successful Colts
team of 2012, the intake of Year 9 players was
going to be important. Liam Morgan was named
captain and Mitchell Keip was his 2IC. With only
two other Year 10 players, it was a young team of
mixed experience. Practices became an exercise in
sharpening up fielding skills, and learning to bowl line
and length. The exciting thing was the improvement
shown, and some of the worst offenders became
more confident once their skill level improved. The
colts grade is no stroll in the park, with the opposition
made up of the boys’ schools of Napier, Hastings,
Lindisfarne and St Johns. Great wins occurred over
Napier 2, Lindisfarne and St Johns and narrow losses
against Hastings and Tawa in our inter school match.
The only bad loss was against Napier 1 on a poor
pitch in Napier early on.
Star of the show was diminutive opening batsman,
Harry Young, who plundered runs off nearly every
attack he played against. He had consecutive
