Pathways to the Prize Lessons from the 2011 SCORE Prize School Winners Pathways to the Prize Lessons from the 2011 SCORE Prize School Winners CO NC ON SI LU Over the last three years, Tennessee has transformed into a national leader for education reform. State and local leaders have come together to make a series of policy changes, including raising academic standards for our students, providing educators with more timely access to data, and focusing on our lowest achieving schools to ensure that more of our students graduate from high school with the skills they need to be successful in life. More than policy changes, it is the work of educators and administrators on the ground that is making our commitment to preparing all students for the global economy a reality. Fairview Elementary in Anderson County, Power Center Academy in Memphis, and Mt. Juliet High School in Wilson County show us that the challenges of poverty, tight budgets, and increased demands for students and teachers do not stand in the way of improving learning outcomes for all students. They have shown us that it is possible to rise to these challenges. While each school’s pathway to the SCORE Prize reflects their unique attributes, they all set high expectations for their students, use data to inform instructional choices, and provide all stakeholders – students, teachers, and parents – with the supports they need to meet their goals. We hope that their stories both inspire you and provide you with additional insight to continue in your work to prepare students for college and the workforce. 38 Conclusion Conclusion 39
