2013 Education and Volunteer Programs The Kiawah Conservancy offers a variety of volunteer and education opportunities for property owners, residents and visitors. We encourage you to join us for an educational program or activity, volunteer your time or sign up to learn more about how the Kiawah Conservancy is working to protect Kiawah Island’s diverse wildlife and habitat communities. In 2013, educational efforts included... • Free monthly Conservation Matters educational programs and activities including presentations from The Center for Birds of Prey and the South Carolina Aquarium, a diamondback terrapin presentation and paddle, bird walks with Aaron Given and much more. (Visit www.kiawahconservancy.org to learn about this year’s Conservation Matters programs.) • A field trip and educational presentation on conservation efforts to students from Charleston Collegiate. • Printing and distribution of our first Annual Report. • A growing number of followers on Facebook and Twitter. 2013 volunteer opportunities included... • Kiawah Island Triathlon and Marathon, for which the Kiawah Conservancy received a donation from the Kiawah Island Golf Resort for recruiting volunteers. • Stewardship visits with the Kiawah Conservancy’s land preservation coordinator. • Bird monitoring and banding efforts throughout the year including the Christmas Bird Count. 18
