The Pen of Liberty used by President Lincoln in 1862 and 1863 . This piece stood out to me because it symbolizes our freedom because it was used to sign the Emancipation Proclamation .
The Banjo Lesson created by Henry Tanner in 1893 . This piece stood out to me because it tells a story of how even though blacks didn ’ t have lots of money , they still kept tradition and passed them down the younger generation of their family .

West Side Alley created by Dan Terry Keid in 1933 . This piece stood out to me because it showed the types of homes that blacks used to live in and it made me realize how fortunate I am .
The Soul and Spirit of John Biggers created by James Phillips . This piece stood out to me because it was very colorful and hade a lot of popping colors compared to the more muted shades in earlier art . And by seeing that , I felt that as the art got happier so did the people .
