The Pen of Liberty used by President Lincoln in 1862 and 1863. This piece stood out to me because it symbolizes our freedom because it was used to sign the Emancipation Proclamation.
The Banjo Lesson created by Henry Tanner in 1893. This piece stood out to me because it tells a story of how even though blacks didn’ t have lots of money, they still kept tradition and passed them down the younger generation of their family.

West Side Alley created by Dan Terry Keid in 1933. This piece stood out to me because it showed the types of homes that blacks used to live in and it made me realize how fortunate I am.
The Soul and Spirit of John Biggers created by James Phillips. This piece stood out to me because it was very colorful and hade a lot of popping colors compared to the more muted shades in earlier art. And by seeing that, I felt that as the art got happier so did the people.
