LAPL Photo Friends ❤ the Valley
Photo Friends is an enthusiastic group of people bonded by a passion for
photography, history, and Los Angeles! We are a non-profit organization that
supports the Los Angeles Public Library’s (LAPL) Photograph Collection and
History & Genealogy Department. Our mission is to improve access to collections and promote them through public programs, projects, and exhibits.
Our latest project is a fundraising effort to enable the digitizing and cataloging
of the LAPL’s Valley Times (1946–1970) archive. The project will make around
30,000 images available for searching online at the library’s web site. The images
include hard news stories such as crime and politics but emphasize the development of the Valley and human interest stories, including social clubs, school
events, groundbreakings, local politics, amusement parks, leisure activities, the
movie industry in the Valley, religion, commercial industry, aerospace industry,
new architecture, and more! Visit us online to learn how to support this effort.
