Bids
INDIANAPOLIS, IND - Four PBC women’s basketball teams learned Sunday evening that they would be advancing to NCAA Tournament Play.
The Southeast Regional tournament will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne in
Hickory, N.C. beginning March 14.
Clayton State will be the number two seed in the tournament and
will be matched up against Belmont Abbey (21-8) in the quarterfinal
round. The Lakers are no strangers to post season play and look to find
their way back a title game. The last time Clayton State appeared in a
National Title game was in 2011 when they won the PBC’s only women’s
basketball National Title. This will be the 10th consecutive year the
40
2013-14
Lakers have made an NCAA Tournament appearance.
The North Georgia Saints enter the tournament as a four seed this
year after a 22-6 season. This is the first-ever NCAA post season appearance for the Saints after finishing the season ranked 23rd in the nation.
UNG will face the PBC Tournament Champions Columbus State in their
first game.
Columbus State received a fifth seed in the Southeast Tournament
after capturing their third PBC Tournament title in school history on Sunday. The championship landed the Cougars an automatic bid in to the
tournament and their seventh tournament appearance in the programs
existence.
The Pirates of Armstrong round out the Southeast tournament field
grabbing the eighth seed to play host Lenoir-Rhyne. After an impressive
19-7 season Armstrong looks for continued success in this regional tournament. This tournament bid is their third all time and the first since the
2003-04 season.
NCAA Women: Pirates’ Region Run Ends In Title Game,
74-55, To Limestone
HICKORY, N.C. - The seventh-seeded Limestone women’s basketball team
ended eighth-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State University’s magical
postseason run with a 74-55 win in the 2014 NCAA Division II Women’s
Basketball Southeast Region final on Monday evening at Shuford Gymnasium.
Limestone (27-5) extended its current winning streak to
14 in a row and will represent
the region at the 2014 NCAA
Division II Women’s Basketball
Elite Eight in Erie, Pa., on March
25-28. Armstrong sees its season come to a close with a 21-8
record, winning 12 of its last 14
games of the season and winning two postseason games NAIA or NCAA - for the first time
in school history. The Saints
avenged an earlier-season 82-77 loss to the Pirates back on November
23rd as well.
Limestone started off the contest hot on a 10-1 run over the first
three minutes as the Pirates missed their first four shots from the floor
and turned the ball over twice in their first seven possessions. The Saints
extended that lead to 16, 20-4, on a three-pointer
