The No. 17-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University volleyball squad is back-to-back Peach Belt Conference Tournament champions after the Pirates’ 3-0 victory over USC Aiken on Sunday afternoon at the Smith University Center in Florence, S.C. Set scores were: 25-23, 25-22, 25-12. The Pirates (30-1) captured their fourth tournament title overall and third in the last six seasons with the win over the sixth-seeded Pacers (19-13), who were the lowest seed in to participate in the PBC Tournament Championship match in the history of the tournament. Armstrong had won titles in 2002, 2008 and 2012. USC Aiken jumped out quick in the first set, taking a 10-4 lead against the top-seeded Pirates. Armstrong battled back to eventually tie the set at 12-all on a kill by Emily Wylie, but the Pacers answered to take an 18-15 lead on a kill from setter Sheila Walsh. Armstrong evened it up again with three straight points and the back-and-forth set was won eventually on a pair of kills from PBC Tournament MVP Stephanie Sfara as the Pirates took the two-point first-set win.
