UAH Claims Peach Belt Men’ s Track and Field Championship Title!

Rome, Ga.— The University of Alabama-Huntsville claimed the first-ever Peach Belt Conference men’ s Track & Field Championship on Saturday at Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga. The Chargers took top honors with a total of 164 points. UNC Pembroke( 160) and Nova Southeastern( 133) finished second and third, respectively, for the men.
In the men’ s event UNC Penbroke’ s Pardon Ndhlovu took the top spot with a time of 3:57.10; followed by Ayrton Azcue of Clayton State with a 3:57.52, and Dustin Ross of Augusta State with a 3:57.84.
In the 400m dash, Tylan Washington of Nova Southeastern finished first with a time of 48.61; followed by Cole Rice( 48.81) of Shorter and Jonathan Williams( 48.92) of UNC Pembroke.
Allen Huntley of Shorter took the Men’ s 100m championship in a time of 10.91; with Shaquille Ray of UNC Pembroke taking second with an 11.03, Micah Reed of Shorter rounded out the top three with an 11.19.
Next in the 100m hurdles, Patrico Morency of Nova Southeastern took first with a time of 15.33, Alabama-Huntsville’ s Brennan Parks( 15.74) and Aaron Lee( 15.91) finished second and third, respectively.
Ayrton Azcue of Clayton State earned the win in the 800m with a time of 1:55.44, followed by Blaise Binns( 1:56.65) of Alabama-Huntsville and Gregory Roachfield( 1:57.65) of Shorter.
In the 200m dash, UNC Pembroke placed the top two runners, with Jonathan Williams( 21.83) earning the win and Shaquille Ray( 21.93) the runner-up. Allen Huntley( 21.97) of Shorter rounded out the top three.
Ndhlovu was at it again in the 5000m as he finished first with a 15:06.17. Next was Blaise Binns of Alabama-Huntsville with a 15:12.92 and Job Kemboi of Clayton State with a 15:14.40.
For the men in the 400 hurdles, Gerald Chichester( 54.91) of Columbus State came in first, Patrico Morency( 56.03) of Nova Southeastern took second, and Norbert Ferrell( 57.60) of Columbus State finished third.
The Men’ s 4x400m relay was the final events of the day. Nova Southeastern took top honors with a 3:15.00; next was Shorter with a 3:16.89 and Alabama-Huntsville with a 3:17.73.
Devin Jones of Alabama-Huntsville took first in the men’ s high jump with a distance of 1.93m; followed by D’ Andre Weaver( J1.93m) of UNC Pembroke and Derrick Wood( J1.93m) of Nova Southeastern.
David Johnson( 14.53m) of Shorter finished first in the triple jump, followed by Zeke Hoggs( 14.38m) of UNC Pembroke and Kedemah Howard( 13.48m) of Shorter.
In the Men’ s Pole Vault, Luke Beck of Alabama-Huntsville took top honors with a height of 4.58m, followed by Ryan Jerothe of Nova Southeastern with 4.70m, and Ian Towne of Nova Southeastern with 4.40m.
In discus, Wil Lester won the championship with 44.20m, followed by Darren Hendricks Nova Southeastern with 40.00m, and Ben Futerman of Nova Southeastern with 39.32m.
Matt Thompson( 49.58m) UNC Pembroke won the men’ s javelin, followed by Luke Beck( 46.86m) of Alabama-Huntsville and Douglas Lynch( 45.94m) of Columbus State.
Bryce Rauhof of Clayton State finished first in the shot put with 13.18m, Chris Sickafoose of Shorter finished second with 13.05m, and Ben Futerman of Nova Southeastern finished third with 12.47m.

PBC Athletes to Run at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Five Peach Belt Conference men and learned on Monday that they will compete in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships as the organization released the participants. UNC Pembroke’ s Pardon Ndhlovu and Zeke Hoggs will compete as will Clayton State’ s Aryton Azcue, Augusta State’ s Dustin Ross and Nova Southeastern’ s Tayln Washington.
The championships will be held May 23-25 in Pueblo, Colo., at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl. Colorado State-Pueblo will serve as host of the championships.
Ndhlovu, a Zimbabwe native, will represent UNCP in its fifth-consecutive appearance at the national championship meet in a personal best two events as he originally set an automatic qualifying time in the 10,000m run at the historic Penn Relays with a time of 29:04.01 to rank him fourth among the competition in the event. The business major also set a provisional qualifying time of 14:10.84 in the 5,000m run at the Raleigh Relays to place him 12th overall out of 21 selected to compete in the race.
Ndhlovu is more than 36 seconds behind the top runner from Adams State and less than one second behind the runner in 11th from Chico State in the 5,000m run. In the 10,000m run, he is seven seconds behind the lead runner from American International and more than three second ahead of the fifth place runner from Umass Lowell.
With one final meet to improve on times and distances, Hoggs used his opportunity and clinched his first provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump with a distance of 14.97m at the Aggie Last Chance Meet
hosted by North Carolina A & T.
Hoggs currently sits 18th out of 22 athletes selected to compete in the triple jump after improving on a personal best jump by. 59m to hold the second best jump in the Peach Belt Conference. The top contender in the event from TAMU-Kingsville notched a mark of 16.00m, while Hoggs is. 09m behind the jumper from Emporia State in 17th.
Clayton State senior Ayrton Azcue will run in the 800. He will compete in the preliminaries of the event at 6:15 p. m.( MDT) with the men’ s 800m finals planned for Saturday, May 25th at 7:05( MDT).
Azcue enters the field of 20 runners with the nation’ s 13th fastest time. He broke his own school record Saturday in the 800m at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a time of 1:50.46 in the race.
The only Jaguar to reach the NCAA postseason from both track and field teams, Ross will race in the 1500 on Saturday, May 25 at 5:45 p. m. following the women’ s race at 5:35 p. m. The decathlon( 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters) kicks off the championships Thursday morning at 10:00 a. m.
Ross qualified for the NCAA Championships with his fourth-place finish in the men’ s 1500 at the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday, May 10, with a time of 3:50.31 – making him the first ASU track and field competitor to achieve postseason success.
NSU’ s Talyn Washington is the lone qualifier for the Sharks. Washington provisionally qualified for the men’ s 400-meter dash with a time of 47:12. The men’ s 400-meter prelim begins May 23, at 5:55 p. m., with the finals set for 6:25 p. m. on May 25.
Two PBC Track & Field Athletes Earn All-America Laurels at NCAA Nationals
PUEBLO, COLO.— Two Peach Belt Conference men’ s track & field athletes finished among the top eight in the nation in their respective events and earned All-America status as the NCAA National Championships came to a close this weekend in Pueblo, Colo. UNC Pembroke’ s Pardon Ndhlovu and the Clayton State’ s of Aryton Azcue will return home as All-Americans with one seventh-place and one eighth-place finish at the championships, which were hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo.
Azcue placed eighth in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.24. He
