Sean Hoek was the first player to take a penalty kick in the shootout round and his shot was saved by Flagler keeper Camp Bissell. Kevin Keenan followed for the Saints and he buried the ball into the back of the net. Miles stepped up next for UNCP and his shot was saved. Flagler made the next three shots, capped by Shanahan’ s to win it.
Bissell saved three shots for the Saints while Hanson recorded 12 saves for the Braves.
Flagler would meet WIngate in the round of 16 game in St. Augustine. Wingate beat Lander 2-1 in Greenwood, scoring a goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation. In St. Augustine, Wingate scored twice in the first 21 minutes for an early lead. Flagler answered back with a goal three minutes later. The score would remain 2-1 through the half. But early in the 56th minute, Jonny Cosgrove’ s corner kick bent into the goal where Daniel DeGraff made a diving stop on the near post, but the ball spun away and appeared to go a couple of feet into the goal. However, the goal was not allowed.
Stephen Pratt had an excellent shot at the equalizer in the 70th minute, but DeGraff was able to corral the ball. The Saints would not get another opportunity and Wingate won the game 2-1.

UM’ s Howard Named Men’ s Soccer Scholar All- South Region |
KANSAS CITY, KS – Montevallo’ s Shane Howard was named to the 2012 Men’ s College Division Scholar All-South Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America( NSCAA). Howard is the only PBC men’ s player to be named to the All-South team; Young Harris’ Wezley Barnard, James Thorpe, Andreas Pechmann, Alex Rivera and Ashley Walker, UNC Pembroke’ s Jeff McDonald, Martin Nordvik Tomter and Daniel Bougt, and North Georgia’ s Jesy Phelps were all named honorable mention.
Howard finished tied for second on the team in goals scored with five goals during his senior season. Howard, who also assisted on four other goals, finished second on the team behind freshman Pierre Omanga with 14 total points.
Howard was named first team All-Peach Belt Conference and second team NSCAA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region following the season.
Howard, a midfielder from County Carlow, Ireland, is a kinesiology major and has compiled a 3.42 grade-point average in the classroom. Howard was also named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team.
Howard, who joined the Falcons as a transfer from Old Dominion University before the 2011 season, was named second team All- Peach Belt Conference and was a Bronze Scholar on the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll during his junior season.
