TRANSFORMATIONAL
LEADERSHIP
Linda Drogos began her career at UNC Hospitals more than two decades ago as a
Nursing Assistant (NA). She returned to school and remained at UNCH after graduating
with her BSN. Maybe this is part of the reason she takes a special interest in making
sure that NAs and Health Unit Coordinators (HUC) feel that they are valued members
of the healthcare team. While doing staff annual evaluations last year she realized that
RNs have professional expectations of providing educational activities, but no such
requirement existed for other staff. “I felt that it was important for NAs and HUCs to have
this same requirement so they would realize their leadership potential, feel valued as
part of the team, and not become stagnant in their jobs.”
The win-win results have led to improved patient care as well as improved staff
development.
