07 NURSING STAFF PROFILE A Good Fit Jimmy Lancaster, BA Health Unit Coordinator Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit UNC Hospitals Jimmy Lancaster has been with UNC Hospitals for over 30 years, more than 20 of them as Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit. He thrives on the variety that each day brings, and on the freedom to carry out his duties and responsibilities in the way he thinks best. He is the Chairman of the Assistive Personnel Career Advancement Team (APCAT) and has no desire to transition out of the position he currently holds. “Some of us have chosen and stayed with our jobs because because we have found a good match, like me with my HUC position. So to me career advancement is staying on top of what’s current, keeping up with new innovations and new ways of doing things, and at the same time helping newer staff members learn from my experience.”
