Updates from
The Executive Director
2010 was another strong year for The Brain Aneurysm Foundation.
The foundation continues to gain momentum daily with the addition of new supporters across the country and world acting as a
voice for brain aneurysm awareness.
Due to the dedication of our past and newly acquired supporters, the foundation was able to maintain a solid financial position
amidst a somewhat difficult economic climate.
Our major project of 2010 was the redesign and update of the foundation’s website. We were pleased to unveil our new website
in the summer of 2010. Our new website has proven to be more efficient and informative for our users. Our content is even
more robust and extensive than it was in the past. The inclusion of a new online support group has also allowed the foundation to
connect people across all nations who have in some way been affected by a brain aneurysm, so they can communicate with one
another to share experiences and promote a community of friendship.
I send a big thank you to all of our 2010 supporters. It has been your donations of time, talent, and money that have allowed
The Brain Aneurysm Foundation to continue the battle each day to work towards early detection, providing research grants,
improving our support methods, as well disseminating educational and awareness materials.
I ask you to continue your support in any way you can. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is ever evolving to best serve those
affected by a brain aneurysm and promoting awareness to increase early detection and better patient outcomes. Your input and
support is what makes The Brain Aneurysm Foundation. I look forward to working with you in 2011!
Again, many thanks for your dedication, support, trust, and for sharing your personal experiences with the foundation in 2010.
Christine Buckley, Executive Director
The Medical Advisory Board Executive Director
I am happy to report continued growth of the research grant program which began in 2007. In the last year, The Brain Aneurysm
Foundation awarded $110,000 in research funding. This brings the total amount awarded in research funding since the inception
of the funding program to over half a million dollars. The research funding plays a vital role in energizing neuroscience leaders to
find better ways to detect aneurysms, manage aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and the complications of vasospasm and
stroke. There have been several sentinel studies on how aneurysms form and grow.
By supporting the medical research community, we are supportive of a very vital aspect of the mission of the foundation. I
would like to thank the families who have been tragically affected by the loss of a loved one to a brain aneurysm who have given
generously to support the majority of the research grant program.
Another significant accomplishment in 2010 was a complete revision of the website and a new o nline support community. As
the Internet plays a larger role in many individuals’ lives, this has proven to be a very effective means of providing information
and support for providers and their families. In addition, the DVD “Early Detection of Brain Aneurysms: Life Versus Death” has
enjoyed continued widespread distribution. The video documents early detection as well as awareness.
On behalf of the Medical Advisory Board, I thank you for your continued support of The Brain Aneurysm Foundation and your
commitment to pursuing research, education, and awareness of this often devastating disease.
