Demarest hosts one of the high schools in the Northern Valley Regional system, as well as an active nature center with programs and events for children and adults. One of the highlights there is the annual Oktoberfest celebration. Near the center of town is the Duck Pond where many borough events, including the annual Demarest Day, are held. The community is made up of several treelined residential neighborhoods.

DUMONT
ESTABLISHED 1894 dumontnj. gov
Established as the Borough of Schraalenburgh, and renamed after its first mayor, Dumont saw its earliest citizens open small businesses and settle in homes near the railroad that bisects it. Generations later, their proud descendants remain in the tightknit community. Local dignitaries cling to tradition, planting a tree each Arbor Day in an arboretum, adjacent to the railroad.
