NEWS & NOTES
The Therapeutic Nursery
at the Kaplen JCC on the
Palisades is a developmental
language-based parent/child
program for bright preschool
children with developmental
difficulties. The program focuses on enhancing social skills as
well as emotional and behavioral regulation. The nursery
has reached a milestone of 25 years and will hold a
special celebration 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, at the JCC. Dr. Lois Mendelson, one
of the founders of the nursery, along with Dr. Doris Allen, will receive The Visionary
in Education Award. Amber Sabathia and Kelly Spitzley will also be honored. For
more information, call Gineen Weiss at (201) 408-1439 or email [email protected].
PLAY BALL
Local residents enjoy playing in the Challenger Division of Little League,
which was created in 1989 for children ages 4 to 22 with physical and mental
challenges. The league gives them the opportunity to play baseball just like their
peers, but in an adaptive, comfortable setting. More than 30,000 children participate in these leagues around the world and play three-inning games with no
outs or keeping score. To find a team in the local area or to become a volunteer,
contact Sam Ranck at (570) 326-1921, ext. 2254, or [email protected].
