Dr. Purnima Hernandez, affectionately known as“ Dr. H” byher patients and their families, has created a pediatric dentistry practice that is uniquely well-suited for today’ s world. Already triple board-certified as apediatric dentist, abehavior analyst, and as ahealth and wellness coach, Dr. Hernandez completed her training in functional medicine and herbalism. This has allowed her to take apatientcentered, science-based approach that enables her patients to achieve optimal wellness.

“ I look at the whole child and how the mouth connects to the rest of the body,” she says.“ I promote lifestyle management and an alignment with physiology.” She is particularly excited about continuing her integrative health journey with afocus on airway and sleep-related issues in children.
Her expertise in pediatric dentistry, applied behavior analysis, and functional medicine has benefited all of her patients, but especially those with special healthcare needs, anxiety, phobias, and behavioral disorders. As a parent of a child with special needs, Dr. Hernandez advocates for all children in the community and takes an enormous sense of satisfaction in knowing she has successfully treated so many children who initially seemed to have an insurmountable fear of dental treatment.
Bergen Pediatric Dentistry offers the latest innovative tools and techniques, including laser dentistry, to provide the least invasive and most comfortable experience. The office space is equipped with cutting-edge technology such as high-end air purifiers and extra oral evacuators to provide a safe environment for the families and staff.
Dr. Hernandez is the recipient of the Dr. Solomon Rosenstein Visiting Professorship and Fellowship by the Columbia University College of Medicine for her contribution in the field of Special Needs Dentistry. She was also bestowed the Francis Black Humanitarian Award in
Healthcare by Friends Health Connection, an award that recognizes individuals from New Jersey’ s healthcare facilities who are an extraordinary inspiration to others.
In her free time, Dr. Hernandez enjoys spending time with her family, practicing yoga and meditation, dancing, and working out. She is avid reader and writer, publishing occasionally. She is a frequent guest speaker at conferences where she is invited to share knowledge from each of her disciplines. Dr. Hernandez is a strong proponent of the correlation between a nutritious diet regimen and good oral health. To promote healthy eating, Dr. Hernandez created a cooking blog on YouTube,“ From Chef H’ s Kitchen,” in an effort to share healthy, home-cooked meal tutorials with her patients and family, all of whom she views as her“ extended family.” Dr. Hernandez is a lifelong learner, and her quest to better understand integrative health and incorporate it into her practice and the lives of her patients makes her an exceptional pediatric dentist.
