10,000 TIMES THE COMPUTING POWER

In 2000 , surgeons at Hackensack University Medical Center performed their first surgery using da Vinci robots . Since then , roughly 25,000 robotic surgeries have been conducted there , putting HUMC in the top 1 % of hospitals in the country to have done so many . And in April , Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center underscored its commitment to robotic surgery when it became one of only 14 centers in the world , and the only one in the tri-state area , toacquire the Intuitive Surgical daVinci 5multiport surgical system .

With 10,000 times the computing power , new sensing technology , and next-generation 3D display and image processing , using the system can lead to multiple patient benefits . These include decreased blood loss and reduced need for transfusions ; less risk of infection ; less post-surgical pain , and afaster recovery . Itishoused in the Helena Theurer Pavilion on the Hackensack campus , and will be used by surgeons inthe fields of general surgery , gynecology , urology , colorectal , thoracic and bariatrics .“ The daVinci 5 represents the next chapter inour robotic surgery journey ,” says Robert C . Garrett , CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health .
