In May , patients served by Bergen New Bridge Medical Center who are in need of bariatric surgery — surgical procedures performed onthe stomach or intestines to induce weight loss — gained new resources . The hospital formed apartnership with the highly regarded New York Bariatric Group and opened anew bariatric suite . Dr . Vadim Gritsus , the lead bariatric surgeon with NYBG and Bergen New Bridge , says that the office will be run by the hospital and staffed with his practice ’ sphysicians and physician assistants . “ NYBG has recruited top-tier surgeons throughout the state , and we ’ re providing pre-operative and long-term postoperative care aswell ,” hesays . Forapatient tobesuccessful , says Gritsus , they should be given nutritional counseling , meet with their doctors to know what to expect and be cleared by ateam that includes acardiologist , pulmonologist and others ; bariatric surgery patients should also be monitored to make sure they maintain aproper diet , exercise and continue a regimen of vitamins .“ The hospital provides not just acute care , but also out-patient services ,” he notes . Telemedicine options are also now available .
“ There are avariety of procedures that can now be t ailored to particular patients ,” says Gritsus .“ We have alot more tooffer than we did 20 years ago .” Money Magazine , in partnership with The Leapfrog Group , recently agreed , naming Bergen New Bridge Medical Center aBest Hospital for Bariatric Surgery . ■
