MSP Communications asked Bergen dentists to nominate colleagues in the county they would choose in seeking dental care for themselves . The Super Dentists research team investigates further , searching for exceptional dentists to complement the results . Candidates are evaluated on indicators of peer recognition , professional achievement and any disciplinary history . Dentists were grouped into seven practice areas . Those with the highest scores from each grouping were invited to serve on a blue-ribbon panel and asked to evaluate the candidates in their practice areas . Finally , dentists who acquired the highest total points from the surveys , research and blue-ribbon panel review were selected for inclusion in Bergen ’ s Top Dentists . Of course , no list is perfect . Many qualified dentists who are providing excellent care for their patients may not be included on this year ’ s list .
