PopFit Kids is aiming to help kids stay active while parents shop
POPFIT KIDS, afitness businessthat holds pop-upclasses for children in schools, community centers and other private locationsin Manhattan, has opened in a storefront at Paramus Park mall to take its fun fitness message to suburban shoppers and their kids. The concept: To give kids a place where they can run, jump, exercise and learn about fitness in 50-minute fast-paced classes, while giving parentsasafeplace to leave their children while they do a quick errand or grab a cup of coffee. Mara Wedeck, the owner of the five-year-old business, says that PopFit Kids isagood fitfor kids, moms and dads— and shopping malls.“ The idea was to create a movement program that got kids excited about the idea of physical activity,” she says.” PopFit Kids is located in a former Stride Rite shoe store at the mall.
Englewood Cliffs teen translates children’ s books
Dwight-Englewood 11th grader LEILA MOSTEIKA spends her summers with her grandparents in Lithuania. While there, she volunteers at local children’ s centers, helping them learn English and expanding their interest in the world. Mosteika translated Fia and the Butterfly: 7Stories for Character Education, written by Dr. Lonnetta M. Taylor-Gaines, into Lithuanian and presented copies of the book to Lithuanian orphanages and daycare centers.“ Inspired by the lessons and wisdom in Fia and the Butterfly, and given opportunities to bond with both my peers and a diverse group of children abroad, and to understand our common values, has been an incomparable experience,” says Mosteika, who has also translated Planet Earth Gets Well, byMadeline Kaplan, into Spanish.
