Bergen County is a great place to live and we highlight the best of what our towns offer on pages 18-25. Congratulations to all the winners. My personal favorite family place is VAN SAUN COUNTY PARK in Paramus. There is so much to do there. They have a carousel and playground, and it’s home to the Bergen County Zoo. Stumped on what to do with the kids? Take a drive there and they will be entertained for hours. I also speak with mompreneur and Ridgewood resident Rosie Pope. Pope is the creator of the Rosie Pope lifestyle brand aimed at helping parents with tips, advice and some really cute baby products. We tackle serious parenting topics in “Online Safety 101,” focusing on the questions we should be asking ourselves before handing a smartphone over to our children (and what they may be doing on those phones) and “School Violence,” in which we address the tough questions parents have when talking to their kids about tragedies, like the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Our Health & Wellness department shares the story of Northern Highlands star athlete Madison Holleran, who committed suicide her freshman year at Penn. Kate Fagan, author of the New York Times bestseller What Made Maddy Run, now speaks with college athletic departments about what she learned while researching the book, including how mental health issues affect young athletes. Fun Food writer Kate Morgan Jackson offers some delicious dishes to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Breakfast tacos or pineapple guacamole, anyone? Yum. Pantone’s Color of the Year, ultra-violet, is the star of the bedroom featured in our Home department. Interior designers Jessica Geller and Virginia Toledo paired the purple with jade to enhance the room’s color scheme. Turn to page 12 to get some design ideas. And with spring and summer travel plans in the works for many families, our Dining department gives you some of the best bars in Walt Disney World. Because — sometimes — parents need a drink. ● LAURA ADAMS STIANSEN
