Demarest mom creates children’ s apps
Demarest’ s SANDHYA NANKANI, founder of Literary Safari, created and launched two children’ s apps – HangArt and Grandma’ s Great Gourd. HangArt puts a twist on the classic word game Hangman. Children use the building blocks of spelling, writing, art and storytelling to play Hangman, draw pictures and tell stories. Grandma’ s Great Gourd is based off author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’ s picture book Grandma and the Great Gourd: ABengali Folktale. The app features aSouth Asian grandma who travels through the jungle near her home in the Sundarbans Forest in Bengal, tricking animals and using her wits to avoid all kinds of trouble. Both apps are available on iTunes and Google Play.

Equestrian program available at Overpeck Park
The BERGEN EQUESTRIAN CENTER at Overpeck Park now offers after-school programs for boys and girls 7-13 years old. Students will learn about horses, grooming, equipment and how to prepare for riding. Students will have the opportunity to ride horses with a specially tailored lesson. Activities for students also include playing games, painting horse shows, barn scavenger hunts, and making horse centric arts and crafts.
