CRAFTS shamrock wreath
THIS EASY-TO-MAKE SHAMROCK WREATH WILL BRING ABURST OF GREEN TO YOUR ST. PATRICK’ S DAY
Draw acircle that is 4½ to 5inches in diameter in the centerofthe paper plate and cut it out. The resulting ring shape is the base of the wreath. Punch ahole at the topedge of the paper plate, and string ashort length of ¼-inch wide ribbon through the hole. Tie it off to form ahanging loop for the wreath.
Use the oak tag or the poster board to make ashamrock pattern that is approximately 3x3inches. The easiest way is to trace aheart-shaped cookie cutter for each of the three leaves( not four – that would make it afour leaf clover instead of ashamrock) and a triangle-shaped cutter for the stem. Cut around the outside edge of the oak tag or poster board shamrock to make a stiff pattern that will stand up to innumerable tracings. Alternatives are to download ashamrock pattern from the internet or to sketch afree-hand pattern.
Gather as many differentkinds of green paper as possible. Construction paper in differentshades of green is good. Textured papers make an interesting variation. Green felt and craft foam work well. Trace and cut out at least 20 shamrocks from the paper and felt.
Use white craft glue to adhere 8or 10 shamrocks – evenly spaced – around the paper plate ring, keeping the hanging loop at the top. Glue another layer of shamrocks on top of the first, in varying positions and orientations. Try to cover as much of the white paper plate as possible. Glue any remaining shamrocks to the wreath or save for another craft project.
To finish, cut 4-feet lengths of the emeraldgreen and lime green ribbon. Place the narrower ribbon on top of the wider ribbon, and tie them together into agenerous bow with long tails. Affix the bow to the wreath, either with craft glue or with ashort piece of ribbon. Leave the tails of the bow rather long, but trim to varying lengths as desired. ●
