High school STARS
earn free college tuition
Through the NJ STARS program, Bergen County high
school
students graduating in the top 15 percent of their class can
enroll at
Bergen Community College tuition-free. Bergen hosts free
information
sessions on the program, which include tours and refreshments
in the
Moses Family Meeting & Training Center (TEC-128) at the
college’s
main campus, 400 Paramus Road in Paramus. At the
information
session, prospective students and their families learn more
about BCC.
Recently, alumni have transferred to institutions such as
Yale, the
New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of
California,
Berkeley. For more information on the NJ STARS information

Sports organization
recognized by USTA
for bringing the
sport into school
Impacting local youth was one of KEVIN
ROONEY’s goals when he acquired his first
TGA youth sports franchise in Bergen County
more than 10 years ago, and recently the United
States Tennis Association (USTA) Eastern
Section recognized his efforts. The USTA
Eastern Section awarded Rooney with the “10
and Under Tennis Award,” which recognizes
a person or organization who has done an
outstanding job promoting 10 and Under Tennis.
Rooney was cited for consistently offering high-
quality 10 and Under Tennis programming
including school programs, play days, camps,
10 and Under tournaments and 10 and Under
Junior Team Tennis. “We could not have earned
this award without a staff of passionate tennis
coaches,” Rooney says. “I love what I do and
I am happy to be a small part of growing a
lifelong sport that keeps young people active
and teaches values they will cherish throughout
their lives.”
