This geode cake features galactic blue colors paired with
rose gold for an original look. “I went for drama with this
cake,” Spindler says, “a space geode theme, like moon
rocks.” The geode is centered on the double barrel second
tier to give it more surface area. Crushed rock candies in a
soft coral shade are placed individually by hand to create
shadows, fading outward into light pink rock candy, with
clear rock candy crystals around the perimeter. Gold
leaf around the geode gives it texture and dimension.
Marbleized blue fondant is embellished with hand-painted
touches of edible bronze and rose gold “to make it more
natural,” Spindler says. A geode wedding cake might appeal
to “science nerds” or brides “who don’t want frilly or
feminine,” she says. “This is elegant, and you can really
customize it to fit a wedding palette.” B
