The two-round , seven-week poll featured 150 categories , including Food & Drink , Health & Beauty , Places to Go , Things to Do & People to Meet and Shopping & Services . During ROUND ONE of the poll , nearly 18,000 readers voted by nominating their favorites . The top eight nominations in each category then moved on to ROUND TWO in ahead-to-head format . The second round had nearly 31,000 participants , and between the two rounds , we counted more than 221,000 votes . • There were two rounds of voting .
• The first round — voting by nomination — started Sept . 1and ended on Sept . 30 , 2020 .
• The second round featured the top eight nominations from the first round in a head-to-head vote that started on Nov . 9and ended Nov . 30 , 2020 .
• Voters were allowed one vote per category , per person , per round .
• Finalists are listed in their order of finish .
• Voting for next year ’ s poll starts in September 2021 .
