The Spotlight www.20somethingsudbury.ca 20SS: WHO IS BEHIND LET’S SCRABBALATTE BOARD GAME CAFÉ? Erik and Lawrence Van Beek. 20SS: WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE CAN WE EXPECT FROM LET’S SCRABBALATTE BOARD GAME CAFÉ? The games are what are special. Customers have access to a table and the entire game library for a $6 admission, tax included. The rest works like a café: we serve custom espresso and steamed milk drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, and more); we serve organic coffee and organic and fair trade loose leaf teas; our desserts are freshly made, never factory by a certified red seal pastry chef. 20SS: WHERE DID THIS IDEA COME FROM? A few ideas made up the business: Cash Flow (the board game by Robert Kiyosaki), our passion for board games, Snakes and Lattes in Toronto, and making a smart move in the current economy. PAGE 14 20SS: HOW HAS THE RESPONSE BEEN SO FAR? Absolutely fabulous. All smiles. Facebook went crazy and the feedback we are getting from customers is proof that the simple yet unique café idea has what it takes to live up to the hype for years to come. 20SS: YOU HAVE MORE THAN 300 BOARD GAMES, HOW DID YOU DECIDE WHICH ONES TO BRING IN? WILL YOU BE BRINGING IN NEW ONES? We brought in ones we love and ones we know people love. Table Top, the YouTube board game entertainment channel starring Wil Wheaton is a hub for all of us. All the Table Top games are super popular. We have the classics and the contemporary. Our collection is definitely expanding. We bring in new games all of the time and customer feedback has much say in what we get. 20SS: FAVOURITE BOARD GAMES? Hero Quest for Erik. Cash Flow for Lawrie.
