Tattoos: Past, Present and Future
Eygptians were first to go under the needle. "Iceman" a 5,200 year old, frozen mummy was found with several tattoos located across his lower spine. Right knee and knuckle joints. Ouch! Scientist believed the mummy tattoos were used to alleviate joint pa in and therapeutic release. The word tattoo is said to derive from the Polynesian meaning "to strike" or "to mark something." The purpose of tattoos varies from culture to culture, but most share the aspects of ritual and tradition.
In the present-day, everyone has a million and one different reason for getting a tattoo. Despite the originial history, people who had tattoos in the past were often ridiculed or stereotyped as being criminals, emo or dangerous. With each new generation, tattoos are losing their stereotypical views and becoming more acceptabel in USA. Tattoos are increasing in popular celebrities like Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, and Justin Bieber, all boldly show off their newst tattoos.
