GIANTS
Jack and the Beanstalk
One of my favourite fairy tales about a giant is Jack and the Beanstalk – it ’ s a classic . In this story , Jack , in a moment of silliness , swaps his cow for some magic beans at the market . When he gets home , his mum is ( rightly ) cross with him and chucks them out into the garden . In the morning , however , Jack discovers a giant beanstalk has grown from the magic beans – and it has shot up into the clouds ! Jack decides to head up there and search for food / treasure . At the top , he finds himself in a castle , where he spots the giant ’ s stash of gold coins AND a hen that lays golden eggs – BINGO !
Jack takes them while the giant sleeps , and dashes back down the beanstalk . The next day , Jack decides to head back up the beanstalk to retrieve a golden harp – but this time , the giant wakes up ! Jack has heard that the giant likes to eat children – so he legs it ! With the giant chasing behind shouting FEE-FI-FO-FUM (‘ giant code ’ for : you ’ re dinner ), Jack races down the beanstalk to safety . At the bottom , Jack grabs an axe and chops the beanstalk down , sending the giant crashing to his death .
THE END .
