total physical response method
jPurpose statement:
In this activity the students will respond to commands given by the teacher using simple verbs.
Objective:
At the end of this activity the students will be able to recognize some verbs and to respond to commands coherently.
Materials and resources needed: None.
Description of the Activity:
1) The teacher asks four students to come to the front of the class.
2) The teacher will say “Simon says...” and give a command (Touch your feet, jump to the left).
3) The students will do the same.
4) The other students will be watching from their seats.
5)After some commands, the teacher will invite everybody to participate, and will continue giving commands with the whole class responding.
Short reflexion:
Total physical response is a great approach to work with children. They love to move and to respond to commands, also they have fun and they concentrate on what they are doing. It is very good for messy and noisy crowds.
