Some of the most important things Imara has learned since going into business have been creating budgets , tracking costs and handling the many financial aspects of running a business . “ Learning the money side is huge . When I was an employee , I
only dealt with my personal accounts and didn ’ t have to so carefully track where my money was going – I just knew that my income was enough to cover my expenses . Managing your own business is different . I ’ ve had to learn how to create a budget and track all the financial details to make sure the company ’ s money is appropriately accounted for in terms of our overhead costs , employees , taxes and so forth . It ’ s much more complex .”
In addition to feeling pride in delivering top-notch services to their clients , Imara enjoys having control over her own time and proving to herself that she can run her own business . “ I do also aspire to create enough financial freedom to provide well for my three kids ,” she adds . With the amount of infrastructure being built in the Bay Area and throughout California , she sees plenty of opportunity ahead and is studying to get a contractor ’ s license so that Deep Root
